National - The Share Foundation

  • Dunstan Thomas supports the Share Foundation. The Share Foundation was set up back in 2005 to help children and young people, whose family situation is either severely disadvantaged or non-existent, to achieve their potential by providing support in the form of financial resources and financial education.

The Government now provides £200 initial payment into Junior ISA investment accounts for all children in care for 12 consecutive months or more and born outside the era of the Child Trust Fund (in April 2002 to January 2011).

Following this announcement by the Coalition Government, The Share Foundation was appointed by the Department of Education to establish and operate Junior ISA accounts for these vulnerable children.

The charity raises additional voluntary funds to increase the value of these Junior ISAs. It also works to ensure that children in care have appropriate personal finance education ahead of their ISAs reaching maturity when they are 18 years old.

    News

  • The ‘£1,000 at 18’ competition, organised by The Share Foundation, is aimed at young people in care aged 15-17 and requires entrants to state in no more than 250 words how they would make best use of £1,000 when they turn 18.

  • A team of three company directors recently trekked through the ice and lava fields of Iceland to raise money.

  • The 2014 annual corporate golf day at Goodwood was again run in support of The Share Foundation.

National - Macmillan Cancer Support

  • Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the greatest charities in the UK focusing on helping people face cancer in different ways. Dunstan Thomas believes in helping people diagnosed with cancer and their friends and families. We recently organised a Macmillan Coffee Morning where we raised £107.54.

Local - Piam Brown Ward

  • We have raised funds for the Piam Brown Ward, a specialist children's cancer ward based at Southampton General Hospital. ADunstan Thomas had done this to support our friend and colleague Malcolm Matthews, who sadly passed away in October 2016.

Malcolm had been with Dunstan Thomas for 20 years and diagnosed with Cancer in early 2016. When we asked how we could best support him in his time of need before his untimely death, Malcolm's selfless nature shone through yet again as he suggested we raise funds for the Piam Brown Ward Fund.

If you are not familiar with the amazing work down at Piam Brown Ward please visit their site: http://www.southamptonhospitalcharity.org.

Funds raised are used and spent on play room and school rooms for the kids, trips and outings, parent facilities, equipment and a whole host of other items including specialists. These sorely needed facilities and nurses take care of children from only one day to sixteen years old with all types of Cancer.

Please join us in doing what you can to support Malcolm and Piam Brown Ward by making a donation on our Just Giving page..

Dunstan Thomas will match any donations made. You can donate to help them towards supporting Piam Brown Ward with Luisa Partridge at Dunstan Thomas via email at: lpartridge@dthomas.co.uk

International - Singing Gorilla Projects

  • Dunstan Thomas supports the Singing Gorilla Projects. The Singing Gorilla Projects was setup by Dunstan Thomas CEO Chris Read in 2014 to provide help to a community in south west Uganda.

Singing Gorilla Projects are community based projects that give people choices so that they can enrich their own lives and improve the welfare of their communities in a creative and sustainable manner. Singing Gorilla Projects has been working in Nkuringo, a village in Uganda. A village with no electricity or running water. Singing Gorilla Projects have set up a music school, installed water tanks, sponsored children to continue their schooling and is developing a Community Health Clinic. The projects are:

    1. Music School Projects - The village, Nkuringo, has its own thriving music school with over 50 students performing music and drama with the "Lets Play Music" project.
    2. Community Projects - "Water Wealth Driving Health" project installs water tanks to capture rain water for drinking and washing, in a part of the world where there is no running water.
    3. Education Projects - child sponsorship for schooling and our "Light to Read" project, a solar energy distribution project to help children study more effectively.
    4. Health Projects - our "Step Up to Health" project is building a community health clinic and funding the training of medics and nurses
